Moss scarifiers, sometimes referred to as a de-thatcher, are garden tools designed to cut through the top layer of soil, removing dead moss grass cuttings and other debris. This helps to aerate the soil, making it healthier by removing the majority of the weeds. Dead grass cuttings and moss can choke the surface, preventing rain water from penetrating the ground, which can sit on top making your lawn making it boggy. The problem often  worsens as excess moisture can also encourage even more moss growth.
